Bullpen Leads the Way in Crushers Win

CRESTWOOD, ILLINOIS. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, endured a 41 minute rain delay and the bullpen covered the final six innings to lead the Crushers to a 3-1 win over Windy City.

Lake Erie took an early lead in the first inning when Dane Hutcheon scored from third on a fielder's choice from Cody Lenahan. That was Lenahan's 27th RBI of the year. The run was charged to Windy City starter Eddie Avila (2-6) who went four innings.

Crushers starter Micah Beyer was cruising through the first three innings before mother nature took over. A 41 minute rain delay took both starters out of the game and turned the game into a battle of the bullpens.

Louis Cohen (4-0) was the first man out of the bullpen for Lake Erie. Cohen threw 2.1 innings for the Crushers and allowed one run on two hits.

The Crushers would take a 2-0 lead before Cohen allowed the one run. In the fifth inning, ThunderBolts reliever Colton Follett walked the bases loaded, prompting Windy City to make another change. Dan Hlad came in but he issued a walk to Terry McClure and the Crushers led 2-0.

Windy City scored their lone run in sixth when Blair Beck singled off of Kent Hasler to score Omar Obregon. Hasler had come in to replace Cohen. Hasler went 1.2 innings and struck out four batters.

The insurance run for the Crushers came in the seventh when Aaron Hill led off with an infield single and later scored on a hit by McClure. That made it 3-1. McClure finished with two hits and two RBIs in the win.

There was history made for Windy City as well. With his two hits, Obregon has now hit safely in 26 straight games and he has reached base safely in 41 straight games. The hitting streak is a new record for Windy City.

Seth Lucio pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Crushers and Logan Lombana earned his seventh save with a scoreless ninth inning. With the win, the Crushers clinched their 11th series win on the road. Lake Erie is also 35-2 when leading after seven innings. They moved to within two games of first place.

The Crushers improve to 40-35 and Windy City falls to 32-44. The Crushers return home to begin a six game homestead on Friday night against Traverse City. Game one is slated for 7:05 PM. Justin Sinibaldi (1-2) gets the start for the Crushers while Matt Murphy (2-4) goes for the Beach Bums.
