SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Fire crews are taking advantage of the fall conditions and are working on two prescribed burns in the Santa Fe National Forest.
Crews are working on both the 536-acre Cedar Springs prescribed burn that’s located on the Cuba Ranger District and the 2,515-acre Mesitas prescribed burn located on the Española Ranger District.
According to a release, prescribed fires are one of the most effective ways to restore fire-adapted ecosystems.
Smoke from the Mesitas prescribed burn may be visible from Abiquiu, El Rito, Ojo Caliente, Tres Piedras, Taos, Santa Fe, Española, Los Alamos, Coyote, Cañones, Youngsville and Pojoaque.
Smoke from the Cedar Springs prescribed burn may be visible from La Jara, Cuba, Regina, Lindrith, El Vado, Chama, Abiquiu, Tierra Amarilla, Highway 96 and US Highway 84.
The smoke from both fires is also being monitored to ensure that the New Mexico Environment Department’s Air Quality Bureau regulations are being met.
