Man Indicted in Killing of Canton Siblings

CANTON, GA -- The man accused of fatally stabbing a brother and sister at a Canton apartment complex has been indicted in connection to the July homicide.

A Cherokee County grand jury this week indicted Jose Oscar Tierrablanca-Gierro on two counts each of malice murder, felony murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime as well as six counts of aggravated assault.

Canton residents Omar Ruiz, 23, and Antonia Ruiz, 27, both died Friday, July 22 following an attack inside building 3000 at the Laurels at Greenwood Apartments.

Officers responded to a call of an assault around 1:30 a.m. at the complex, which is located at 1215 Hickory Flat Highway, east of Interstate 575.

Officers arrived on the scene to find two people "lying in the breezeway of the third floor," Canton police previously told Patch.

Omar Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene while his sister died after she was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee.
