'Ghostbusters' Cast News, Update: Original Film Actor Confirmed To Join Paul Feig's Reboot

Fans can now settle down as new casting updates indicate that Bill Murray, one of the original actors in the popular supernatural movie franchise, "Ghostbusters," has finally agreed to appear in Paul Feig's reboot film of the same title.

Citing Vulture.com, the report from Entertainment Weekly quoted the comedian saying that he "really enjoyed being there" with the group who "were incredibly nice" to him.

"They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn't want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it," he told Vulture (via EW).

The 64-year-old multi-awarded actor told the publication that he was intrigued with the addition of Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy into the franchise.

Murray admits that despite the warm welcome he received from Feig's pack, he was still worried that his initial unwillingness to participate in the remake of the classic comedy film which he starred with Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis will be misinterpreted by the public as his disapproval for the project.

The thought lingered on him "for a very long time," in fact "for years."

"It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls," Murray explained to the media outlet. "And then I started to feel like if I didn't do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part]."

Vulture went on to divulge the details of Murray's cameo role in the 2016 film. It is said that the actor will not be reprising the iconic Dr. Peter Venkman. Instead, he will play a character whose main goal is to "debunk the new Ghostbusters crew," played by Wiig, McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.

The Paul Feig-helmed "Ghostbusters" reboot is slated to hit the theaters July 15, 2016.
