1. Aisha L. Furey

Aisha Furey is the 2013 Taunton High School Valedictorian. Academically, Aisha has been a leader within our Honors and AP classes here at THS. Aisha has received awards such as placing first in the 2012 THS Science Fair and later moving on to place second at the BCC/Rensselear Region III 2012 Science Fair. She is a recipient of the I-SWEEP Award at the Environmental Fair Invitational, the ONR Naval Science Award, and the Yale Science and Engineering Award. Aisha represented THS at the 2012 Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair presenting her project on “Human Power Generation Put to Use.” Aisha is a talented musician who plays in the Taunton High School concert band and wind ensemble. She is an actively participates as a member of National Honors Society and Key Club. She was named chairman of Nine Lives of Norton for the 2012 Item Drive and volunteers weekly at the shelter. Aisha is a driven, bright young woman who will no doubt be successful in all of her future endeavors.

2. Jacob C. Santos-Marques

Jacob Santos-Marques is ranked second in the graduating class of 2013, and has done extremely well in the rigorous courses he has chosen at Taunton High School. He is currently enrolled in four Advanced Placement courses, bringing his total of AP courses taken to eight. Jacob received the AP Scholar Award with honors last year, as well as qualified to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program for his perfect score of 800 on the SAT Math Exam. While Jacob has taken full advantage of Taunton High’s AP offerings, he also has become a connected student here as well, having participated on the THS Math Team last year, and becoming a member of the National Honor Society. In addition, Jacob participated in the Class of 2012 graduation as a Marshall, an honor reserved for our top-ranking juniors. He currently tutors his fellow students in math, and last year created AP study guides for future AP students to utilize. In his spare time he enjoys playing the drums. Jacob is looking forward to attending Tufts University where he plans on majoring in chemical engineering.

3. Savanna R. Castello

Savanna Castello is graduating third in her class at Taunton High School and will be attending George Mason University with plans to study neuroscience and psychology. As a connected student on our campus Savanna was a member of our Latin Club, Key Club, Portuguese Club and Youth Court. Savanna is a current member of our National Honor Society. She is participant of our THS concert band for four years and taught religious education at her church. Savanna was recognized as Harvard Book Club Award recipient this fall. Savanna is an exceptional academically driven student and will continue her post-secondary pursuit dream of analyzing human behavior and functions of the brain.

4. Margaret G. McAndrews

Margaret McAndrews currently ranks fourth out of the 2013 Taunton High School graduating class. Margaret has taken a combination of Honors and AP Level courses at Taunton High School. Margaret is a member of the National Honor Society and excels in the area of science. Some of her accomplishments include placing third at the Taunton High School 2012 Science and Engineering Fair, placing second at the BCC/Rensselaer Region III 2012 Science and Engineering Fair and placing third at the 2012 Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair; she also received the Prentice Hall Book Award at this fair.

Margaret is an extremely talented athlete. She has been a member of the varsity tennis team at THS since her freshman year, earning herself the title of captain this year. Margaret has been named Rookie of the Year, Old Colony League All Star and an All Scholastic All-Star throughout her high school career. During her junior year, she was inducted into the Taunton High School Hall of Fame for 42 varsity career wins. Using her passion for tennis, Margaret assisted in the creation of a Special Olympics tennis team in the community. This included fundraising to raise money for the team. She then went on to act as assistant coach for this team. Margaret will be attending Baylor University in Texas this fall.

5. Johanna R. Mullen

Johanna Mullen is graduating fifth in her senior class at Taunton High School. She will attend New York University in the fall, and plans to major in musical theater. She served as freshman and sophomore class president, Latin Club Co-Consul (president), is an officer on the Student Council Executive Board, Drama Club Executive Board member and a member of the National Honor Society. She is a recipient of the Robert Treat Paine Award for civic duty and leadership. Johanna received the Gold Excellence Award from the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils in 2012. Johanna received the Music Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2009, and participated in the All-State Festival Chorus in 2012. She is a choreographer at Applause Academy, and a cantor at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. She is a member of the Star Players of Bristol County Theater Company.

6. Theresa R. Nowacki

Theresa Nowacki is graduating sixth in her senior class at Taunton High School. She will attend Stonehill College in the fall. She has made high honors every semester in high school. Theresa is a very talented artist. She has been published in the Marble Collection, a Massachusetts art and writing publication. Her art work was recently exhibited in the student art exhibit in the new Trescott Street gallery in Taunton. She won a Silver Key in photography in the Scholastic Art statewide competition this year, and has submitted work for multiple years. Theresa volunteered in the art department at Taunton High this year, assisting faculty members. Her art work has been an integral part of the Taunton High School annual art show for the past four years.

7. Matthew S. Beaulieu

Matthew Beaulieu ranks seventh in the graduating class of 2013, with a GPA of 4.796. Among his many activities through the years, Matt has been an active member of the National Honor Society, Math Team and Latin Club. Matt is also a member of the varsity Soccer team and captain of the Tennis team. He works as an assistant coach in the Taunton Youth Soccer League, and volunteers as a catechism teacher for his church. He will be studying computer science at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the fall.

8. Main U. Khan

Main Khan currently ties with Matthew Beaulieu as seventh highest ranking senior in the 2013 Taunton High School graduating class. Main challenged himself in his selection of courses, taking several honors and AP level classes throughout his high school career. He has been a member of the Math Team for the past three years and has participated in many competitions over his high school career. Main was extremely involved in the Taunton High Technology Club where he held the position of vice president. Main was also secretary of the Taunton High School Spanish Club. Main has volunteered in the community. He has volunteered his services for a variety of causes including the Walk for Hunger, Relay for Life and the Walk for Literacy. Even with all of his academic responsibilities and involvement in extracurricular activities, Main still manages to find the time to work part-time at a local supermarket. Main will be attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst this upcoming fall.

9. Nicholas J. Collazo

Nicholas Collazo is graduating ninth in his class at Taunton High School and will be attending Massachusetts College of Art and Design with plans to study animation. As a connected student on our campus Nicholas was a member of our Student Council, President of the French Club, and on the varsity swim team. Nicholas is also a current member of our National Honor Society. He was a participant of our THS Concert Band for four years. Nicholas is an exceptionally talented art student and will continue his post-secondary pursuit dream to become an animator.

10. Matthew M. MacLean

Matthew MacLean currently ranks tenth out of the 2013 Taunton High School graduating class. Matt has challenged himself throughout his four years at Taunton High School, taking several AP and Honors level courses. Matt has participated as a member on the Taunton High Math Team. He was also inducted into the National Honor Society during his sophomore year and he acted as vice president during this school year. Matthew was selected as a Harvard University Book Club Award recipient; this award is given to students who excel academically and socially above and beyond their peers. Matthew is also an extremely talented athlete. Baseball is a passion of his and he has played for Taunton High School since arriving here as a freshman. Because of his natural ability, he has been a member of the varsity baseball team since his sophomore year. This school year, Matt was elected as captain of the team due to his superior leadership skills. He has also played in the Bay State Games where only the top players in the state are chosen to participate. Matt has spent his time helping out at several events sponsored by Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He has also volunteered at youth baseball camps every spring as well as at the Taunton Little League Baseball State Tournament since 2011. In addition, he has worked as a baseball coach at an RBI academy and as a camp counselor at a local baseball camp over the summer. Matt was accepted into the Honors Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and will be attending there this upcoming fall.
