Galaxy Z Flip 3: new renders show the foldable phone with an updated rear camera hump and secondary screen

Samsung is currently expected to launch up to 4 new foldable devices this year, 1 of which will be a next-gen Galaxy Z Flip. Fresh renders of this clamshell phone have popped up with the same main camera module as the Galaxy S21 or S21+. Should this rumor be correct, it could launch with triple rear cameras and more space for a front-facing display.

The Galaxy Z Flip and its 5G variant comprised the first generation of Samsung's clamshell foldables. They cost about US$1400 each on their debut (although they have dropped to US$859 on Amazon right now); therefore, it may have been disappointing for some consumers that they launched with mere dual rear cameras despite their premium price and selling-points. LetsGoDigital's latest renders may indicate that this situation might get better in 2021, if not by much.

They show a successor for the Z Flip and Z Flip 5G (which have the same basic design) with a very different look when closed. This is because the clamshell - called the Z Flip 3 here despite the fact it is technically a second-gen device - is styled so as to look like the Galaxy S21 or S21+ from the back.

The "Z Flip 3" even has the same Phantom Violet color option as the 2 conventional candy-bar flagships: therefore, its new frame-hugging rear camera hump is in a contrasting copper shade. It is also seen in the putative clamshell's frame, separated from the vertically-folding display with a thin bezel.

All in all, should LetsGoDigital be accurate in this mock-up, the "Galaxy Z Flip 3" should turn out with triple rear cameras, (the main shooter of which could be 64MP in resolution) paired on that 'half' of its rear panel by a generous, vaguely square secondary display that might show plenty of basic information (e.g. a clock) so as to avoid opening the phone without need.

The Z Flip LTE/4G and 5G, on the other hand, have a much more limited strip of front-facing screen designed to line up with the rear camera module. However, it may still be some time to see if Samsung really has fixed this issue in the follow-up to its first-ever clamshell foldable.
