RIT wrestling announces incoming class of newcomers for 2018-19 season

ROCHESTER, NY - Under the direction of head coach Jason Bovenzi, the RIT wrestling program has announced its Class of 2022. The group includes 13 talented student-athletes who will compete for roster spots in 2018-19. The Tigers are coming off a successful 2017-18 season in which they won nine dual matches and had three wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Below is a quick snapshot of each incoming wrestler who will vie for a roster spot in 2018-19.
 
Nate Bradley

Before RIT
: Wrestled at Athens High School alongside current Tigers Kaidon Winters (Athens, PA/Athens Area) and Chris Horton … was a three-time Pennsylvania State qualifier … placed seventh at 160 lbs. at the 2018 Pennsylavnia State Championships … was 35-9 in 2017-18 … recorded a 114-44 career record with back-to-back 30-win seasons … also played varsity football and baseball.

Personal: Liberal arts major … born in Sayre, Pa. … son of Sarah and Shawn Bradley … has three siblings, Nick, Jilian and Quin.
 
 
Joe Brillo

Before RIT:
Wrestled at Skaneateles High School … six-year letter winner … holds school records for most career wins (189) and pins (86) … was 189-41 in six seasons … senior captain … six-time All-league selection … two-time league champion … went 35-6 with 18 pins in 2017-18 … also played one year of varsity football and ran cross country.

Personal: Engineering exploration major … born in Syracuse, N.Y. … son of Barb and Joe Brillo.
 
 
Chris Dean

Before RIT:
Wrestled at Long Branch High School … recorded 108 career wins and led school to District and New Jersey Group 4 State Championship … recorded 26 wins and earned a District Championship in 2017-18.

Personal: Engineering exploration major … born in Long Branch, N.J. … son of Alice and Fred Esposito.
 
 
Chris Horton

Before RIT:
Wrestled at Athens High School alongside current Tigers Kaidon Winters (Athens, PA/Athens Area) and Nate Bradley … senior captain … went 110-46 in four seasons … won at least 30 matches in three straight seasons, including a career-best 33 in 2017-18 … three-time Sectional Champion … four-time district qualifier … competed at the 2018 Pennsylvania State Championships.

Personal: Chemical engineering major … born in Sayre, Pa. … son of Sharon and Roger Horton … has two brothers, Roger and Brock and one sister, Kiersten.
 
 
Ian Houck

Before RIT:
Was a standout three-sport athlete at Rondout Valley High School … recorded 168 career wins on the mats … placed sixth at the 2018 New York State Championship at 145 lbs. … was seventh wrestler at Rondout Valley wrestler to place at the state championship … three-time New York State Championship Tournament qualifier … also played varsity lacrosse and soccer … set school record for most saves as a lacrosse goalkeeper (374).

Personal: Film and animation major … born in Rhinebeck, N.Y. … son of Jacqueline and Shawn Houck … has one brother, Timothy.
 
 
Joe Mannarino

Before RIT:
Wrestled for four years at Clarence High School … had a career record of 91-38 … senior captain … helped lead Clarence to 2018 Class AA Champion … finished fourth in his weight class at the 2018 Section XI Championship.

Seth Martin

Before RIT:
Earned four varsity letters at Conestoga Valley High School … recorded seasons of 20 and 22 wins over the last two seasons.

Was a standout wrestler at Mamaroneck High School … two-time Mamaroneck Athletic Association Award winner … two-time All-League selection.

Rey Robinson

Before RIT:
Earned four varsity letters at Glenelg Country School … had a career record of 92-45, including a 35-12 mark as a senior in 2017-18 … served as a two-year captain … earned eighth place honors at 160 lbs. at the Maryland State Tournament … garnered All-Conference honors in 2017-18.

Personal: Electrical and mechanical engineering technology major … born in Washington, D.C. … son of Luzmila and Arthur Robinson … has two brothers, Robby and Stephen.
 
 
Doug Simmons

Before RIT:
Four sport student-athlete at Canastota High School … won the 2018 Central New York State Division II and New York State Championship at 195 lbs. … finished the season with an incredible 41-2 record … three-time Center State Conference and Class C Champion … two-time New York State Championship finalist … was a three-time All-CNY selection in football and two-time sectional qualifier in track … also played varsity baseball.

Shane Thompson
