Audrey A. Smith

Audrey A. Smith, 86, longtime East End resident, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness. She was born on June 27, 1931 in Superior, WI to George and Lil (Carlson) Selvik.

Audrey graduated in 1949 from the former East High School and then she went on to receive her Bachelor Arts Degree in Arts Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

She married Richard "Dick" Smith on April 26, 1952 and recently celebrated sixty-six years of marriage. Audrey was a longtime active member of St Alban Episcopal Church. She also was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Olde Towne Artists, Douglas County 4-H Club and was a den mother for the cub scouts and boy scouts. Audrey loved painting and craft work and being surrounded by her family.

Audrey is survived by her husband Richard "Dick"; her children, Lyndon (Vickie) Smith, Petra (Ben) Anderson, both of Superior, WI and Shawna (Chris) Fiore, South Range, WI; son-in-law, Bob Akers, Andover, MN; eight grandchildren, Josh (Crystal) Smith, Tim (Alanna) Smith, Kamrin Anderson and Jordan Anderson, all of Superior, WI, Gino Fiore, Ashland, WI, Jasmine Fiore, Twin Lakes, WI, Zach Akers and Spencer Akers, both of Andover, MN; three great-grandchildren and expecting an additional great-grandchild in September. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Akers and her parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 1510 New York Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Rev. Steven Burns officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Audrey's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Audrey's name to St. Albans Episcopal Church. Audrey's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Essentia Health Hospice for the wonderful care they offered Audrey during her illness.
