Simian Mobile Disco to release new album ‘Whorl’ in September

Duo's fourth album was recorded live in California in front of an audience of 900 people

Simian Mobile Disco have announced details of new album ‘Whorl’, to be released in September.

The duo, James Ford and Jas Shaw, will release their fourth album on September 8. It is the follow-up to their 2012 album ‘Unpatterns.’ The album’s first single will be ‘Tangents’, a clip of which can be heard below. The album artwork is at the top of the page.

Parts of ‘Whorl’ were recorded live, without computers, in front of an audience of 900 people at Californian venue Pappy & Harriet’s on April 26 of this year (2014). Alongside the live recordings, Jas Shaw also explains in a statement that, “We planned not to slavishly limit ourselves just to this performance. When we came to mixdown the album, we used portions of three sessions – the show itself, an extended jam we did in the desert the day before, and a little of our London studio rehearsal.”

Simian Mobile Disco will play two ‘Whorl’ shows later this year, one in Tokyo on June 21 and a London date at Union Chapel on September 9.
