Warriors' 10-run sixth puts away Rebels

BOONSBORO — The Warriors unloaded on the Rebels in a 10-run sixth inning that ended Saturday's contest.

Cole Rinehart doubled, homered and drove in three, and Adam Mathias added two hits, including a home run, and drove in four for Boonsboro. Brendan Kemp had three hits, including a double, and drove in two. Trenton von Philp doubled and drove in two runs.

Chanse Phillips homered and drove in four for South Hagerstown (1-7). Rhoan Bromfield had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Michael Hawbaker doubled.

Goretti 14, NOVA Homeschool 7

HAYMARKET, Va. — St. Maria Goretti pitching allowed two hits in a doubleheader sweep Saturday, including a six-inning no-hitter by Mark Statz in the nightcap.

In the opener, David Clever and Cam Moats combined on a two-hitter for the Gaels, although walks allowed NOVA to score some runs. Brock Penn had two hits and three RBIs, and Bryant Shives had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Chris Martin had two hits and two RBIs, Luke O'Dell hit a two-run single and a sacrifice fly, and Jacob Carbaugh added a two-run double.

Statz allowed one walk and struck out five in the nightcap for Goretti (8-5). Martin and Seamus Murray set the tone with back-to-back homers in the first inning. Shives had two hits, including a homer, and Penn and Murray also had two hits each.

Waynesboro 6, Red Lion 4

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — The Indians broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the sixth inning to defeat Red Lion on Saturday.

Simon Egolf singled, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored the go-ahead run on an error for Waynesboro (5-2).

Alex Miller earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief. Kurt Biesecker had three hits and Derek Buhrman added two.

Martinsburg 14, Loudoun Valley 13

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Loudoun Valley scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take a 13-7 lead, but Martinsburg responded with seven runs in the bottom half to walk off with a stunning victory Saturday.

Garrett Hobson went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Ashton Staubs was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Kyle Farmer homered and drove in two for the Bulldogs. Noah Slack had two hits and David Connor doubled and drove in three runs.

Jefferson 12, Frankfort 6

Frankfort 10, Jefferson 8

RIPLEY, W.Va. — Jefferson and Frankfort split a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the opener, Jefferson put away Frankfort with a six-run seventh-inning after Frankfort rallied from a 6-3 deficit with a three-run sixth.

Taylor Tennant doubled twice and drove in four runs for the Cougars. Dylan McCartney had two hits and two RBIs, and Regan Allinger also drove in two runs. Tennant pitched the final three innings to earn the win, allowing three unearned runs on one hit and two walks.

In the nightcap, Frankfort rallied from a 6-3 deficit to earn the victory. Daniel Brennan went 3-for-3 and David Dinges added two hits for Jefferson (10-6).

Washington 12, Ripley 4

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Cameron Pine went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Nathan Kerr and Xavian Nawaz each drove in two runs as the Patriots pulled away with a trio of big innings on Saturday.

Washington (9-3) scored four runs in the third, three in the fourth and four more in the sixth. Craig Link went 2-for-2 and Sage Meiling got the win in relief, striking out eight over five innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks.

Mercersburg 7, Hill School 6

Mercersburg 13, Hill School 3

MIDDLEBURG, Va. — Mercersburg Academy swept a MAPL doubleheader on the road Saturday.

In the opener, the Blue Storm scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie, then held on after Hill School scored three in the bottom half to prevail.

Dalton Jackson had two hits and two RBIs, and Beau Lowery also drove in two runs for the Blue Storm. Jayvien Sandridge struck out eight over five innings.

In the nightcap, Parker Hancock had two hits and three RBIs, and Sandridge and Dylan Bartlett also drove in three runs each for Mercersburg, which scored six runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to win by the 10-run rule. Trent Topping struck out three in a three-inning start.

Southern Fulton 3, Southern Huntingdon 2

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Southern Fulton took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning, and Mitchell Potter pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits and striking out four, to close out Saturday's victory.

Branden Lynch had two hits and two RBIs, and Gabriel Stotler also had two hits for the Indians (4-1). Potter drove in a run.

Lincoln 7, Berkeley Springs 6

SHINNSTON, W.Va. — Lincoln scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with a victory over Berkeley Springs on Saturday.

Ayden Lackey and Luke Spielman each had two hits, and Spielman and Justin Stone drove in a run each for the Indians (3-5).

Boonsboro 10, Clear Spring 0

BOONSBORO — Colton Bare and Brock Smith combined on a five-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Warriors beat the Blazers on Friday.

Bare pitched the first four innings, allowing three walks and striking out eight. Smith walked one and struck out two in the fifth.

Adam Mathias homered and drove in four runs, and Brendan Kemp had two hits, including a homer, and drove in three for the Warriors (4-0). Peyton Mason had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, and Josh DeRocher added an RBI double.

Spring Mills 13, Musselman 5

SPRING MILLS, W.Va. — The Cardinals scored seven runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to pull away to Friday's victory over the Applemen.

Noah Wiggins and Bryce Ferro each drove in three runs for Spring Mills. Wiggins struck out seven over 4 1/3 innings.

Blake Hartman and Benjamin Bartles had three hits each and Ethan Wilson added two hits for Musselman. Caleb Horner drove in two runs and struck out five over three innings.

Saint James 2, Fannett-Metal 1

FANNETTSBURG, Pa. — Trinity Schlotterbeck pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Saints stayed unbeaten by edging Fannett-Metal on Saturday.

Sammie Brown had two hits for the Saints (4-0).

Berkeley Springs 14, Martinsburg 10

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Hannah High and Taylor Stotler each had three hits, while McKennah Mullen, Hannah Burton and Katie Hoffman each added two hits in the Indians' win over the Bulldogs on Friday.

High drove in three runs, and Burton and Hoffman added two RBIs each for Berkeley Springs (4-4).

MIDDLETOWN — Boonsboro's boys 4x800 relay team finished third in 8:26.91, and Ellie Bare finished third in the girls 300 hurdles (50.90) on Saturday.

MARION, Pa. — Brooke Emge scored four goals, in the process surpassing 100 for her prep career, as Shalom Christian shut out Cumberland Valley Christian in an MDCC contest Saturday.

Maggie Keller scored the other goal and added two assists for the Flames. Emge, Cassie Oberholzer and Julia Wright had an assist each.

Hagerstown Community College won the opener of Saturday's Maryland JUCO doubleheader split with Catonsville on the strength of Geraghty Showe's three hits and two RBIs and stellar relief pitching from Patrick O'Connor, who went 2 2/3 innings for the win.

Robbie Houck had two hits and Quin Ambeault and O'Connor each had an RBI for the Hawks.

Catonsville took the lead in the second game in the top of the seventh on an error.

Andrew Wenner and Showe each had two hits — one of Showe's was a double — and Doug Cassera had an RBI single for HCC (18-14).

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Shepherd University swept Wheeling Jesuit (4-24, 3-17) in a doubleheader Saturday.

In the opener, Christian Hamel had two hits — a two-run homer and a two-run single — to lead the Rams. Brenton Doyle has three hits and scored three runs, Justin Smith (Smithsburg) had two hits, including a home run, Eric Sloper also had two hits and Brian McCourt and Eddie Nottingham each homered.

In the nightcap, Smith had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs for Shepherd (21-12, 16-6). Doyle hit a three-run homer.

The Hawks fell to 17-11 with a pair of losses to Chesapeake on Saturday in Maryland JUCO play.

Cierra Beaver had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs while tossing a complete game for HCC in the opener. Maddi Renn also had two hits.

Renn and Emily Talbert each had two hits in the second game, with Talbert hitting a double and driving in two. Tiffany Stull had a double and an RBI.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Shepherd University swept Concord in an MEC doubleheader Saturday.

In the opener, Kaitlin Munda (7-4) tossed a five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks for the Rams. Kaitlyn Konopka went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and Lori Sturgill added an RBI triple.

In the nightcap, Rachel Taylor went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Jessica Robinson hit a two-run single, Konopka hit a two-run double, and Molly Staley and Leann Brown added RBI singles. Cheyenne Van Pelt pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, working around six hits and four walks.
