LAWTON, OK (RNN Texoma) - 7News presented checks Thursday to several elementary schools for their participation in last fall’s Spirit of Survival.

Woodland Hills and Crosby Park Elementary schools both received $500.

Woodland Hills got the top prize for having the most Spirit of Survival participants in the large school category and this was their third year in a row.

The PE teacher at Woodland Hills says they like to encourage their students to be part of the community. “We really express to our kids that it’s important to be part of the community and not only live here, but to be a part of it and to make the place you live a better place," said April Bowden, PE Teacher at Woodland HIlls Elementary school.

After the check presentation, kids from both schools also got a chance to tour the 7News building to get a behind-the-scenes look at how we put a newscast together.
