Monday evening, in light of one of their officers being shot while on duty over the weekend, the Rochester Police Department held an event to improve police/community relations.

The Rochester Police Department was joined by the mayor to walk through Rochester neighborhoods, in an effort to build a better relationship with the community and make the city a safer place.

Mayor Warren, members of the clergy, and RPD officers walked around neighborhoods in the southwest part of the City, as part of that push.

Rochester Police Chief, Michael Ciminelli, said that when Officer Nash left the hospital on Monday, he was concerned about others, not himself. So, officers were out Monday night, working on community relations.

“It’s better than meetings with an agenda because what you’re going to be seeing is officers, including myself, walking, talking, having direct dialogue with the people of this neighborhood and we’ll get to know each other a little better,” said Chief Ciminelli.

The Chief says he was at the hospital when Officer Nash was released, and that Nash was tough, requesting to walk rather than use the wheelchair he was brought down in. Ciminelli says the department is grateful he is going to be okay.
