Mrs. Fields Famous Brands is moving its headquarters from Salt Lake City to Broomfield.

The move by the cookie giant with more than 390 U.S. locations and 80 across the globe, was announced Thursday. Mrs. Fields, which also is the parent company of TCBY frozen-yogurt outlets, will lease more than 9,600 square feet in Arista, the commercial and residential area surrounding 1stBank Center.

“The Broomfield area supports a business environment that is rich in franchising, brand development, and fast-casual and (quick-service restaurant) support infrastructure,” Mrs. Fields chief executive Tim Casey said in a news release. “Many casual/quick-service companies were launched from and are based in the area, making it an ideal environment for idea sharing.”

Fast-casual restaurants such as Noodles & Co. and Chipotle have roots in Colorado, and Noodles’ headquarters also is in Broomfield.

Mrs. Fields was founded in 1977, when Debbi Fields opened her first cookie store in Palo Alto, Calif., and the company began franchising in 1990. In 2010, it generated more than $60 million in revenue, according to the news release.

The Salt Lake Tribune in May reported the Salt Lake City-area headquarters employed about 40 people. Many of them would not be offered jobs in Broomfield, according to the Tribune story.
