More than 35 years after the airing of the series finale, some members of the “Good Times” cast reunited in Chicago for Wednesday’s episode of Steve Harvey’s talk show.
Ralph Carter (Michael Evans), Bern Nadette Stanis (Thelma Evans), Jimmie Walker (J.J. Evans), Johnny Brown (Nathan Bookman) and Ja’net DuBois (Willona Woods) sat down with Harvey to discuss the impact of the Chicago-set series, which aired from 1974-79.
“It reminded me of the old ‘Ed Sullivan’ (show),” Walker said about the response to “Good Times.” “When there was black people on ‘Ed Sullivan,’ black people went, ‘We gotta get home. There’s gonna be black people on TV.'”
Harvey transformed his WMAQ-Ch. 5 studio set to look like the “Good Times” living room. His show airs 2 p.m. weekdays on WMAQ-Ch. 5.
