Toronto trombonist and Sudbury expat Christian Overton brings his high energy jazz group the Christian Overton Quintet to his hometown Friday.

Overton has played with jazz legends Danilo Perez and John Patitucci to Canadian legends Don Thompson and Jane Bunnett as well as Glass Tiger, Jully Black, Bedouin Soundclash, Fred Penner and more.

The band is currently promoting its acclaimed album “The Test” which was recently nominated for a Julian Award for best jazz album by an emerging jazz artist.

The group will be holding a clinic during the afternoon of Feb. 26, and a concert later that evening.

The clinic takes place in Laurentian's music building amphitheatre starting at 1 p.m., and the concert takes place starting at 8 p.m. at Fromagerie Elgin. The opening act will be Sudbury’s own Broche a Foin.

Tickets are $20 and $10 for students. Advanced tickets can be purchased by emailing [email protected].
