Georgetown man killed after driving into flooded area

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One person was killed after a vehicle they were in drove into a flooded area Sunday morning in Georgetown County, according to information from the National Weather Service.

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Plantersville Road. A pickup truck with three people inside was traveling southbound when it struck standing water in the roadway, lost control and overturned.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson identified the victim as 23-year-old Michael Dalton Prince, of Georgetown. The cause of death was drowning. he added.

The driver and another passenger were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The SCHP is investigating.
