The Absurd And Absurder In Arís Theatre’s Production Of ‘LazyBed’
Arís, Atlanta’s home for Celtic culture, is back on stage with a Scottish play.
No, not the Scottish play (the one by Shakespeare that thespians dare not speak by name), but a contemporary dark comedy by Iain Crichton Smith.
“LazyBed” is a study in tragedy, comedy, philosophy and the absurd, all anchored by the bedridden main character Murdo.
On “City Lights,” director Kyle Crew and William Webber, who plays Murdo, talked about the play and its rich characters. Crew called “LazyBed,” “one of those remarkable comedies that traffics in very serious, very heavy themes.”
Arís Theatre’s production of “LazyBed” is on stage now at 7 Stages in Little Five Points and runs through May 13.
