A crash Wednesday morning in Transylvania County has deputies searching for a man believed to be armed and dangerous who is wanted in connection with a shooting death, according to the Sheriff's Office.Transylvania County Sheriff David Mahoney said the crash was reported just before 5 a.m. on Old Rosman Highway, near Highway 178 in Rosman.A crashed black Toyota Camry was found, but no one was at the crash scene, Mahoney said.The car is registered to Joseph Barker, who was named as a person of interest in a shooting in Catawba County, Gunter said. The shooting was reported Tuesday in Vale, North Carolina.An email to the WYFF News 4 newsroom identified Barker as a murder suspect.It's unclear whether he ran away or left in another vehicle, Mahoney said.Deputies are looking for Barker and the driver of a red, Chevy S-10 pickup truck that was seen traveling from the Old Rosman Highway area about 5 a.m.A release posted on the Catawba County Sheriff's Office Facebook page said Barker should be considered armed and dangerous.Transylvania County Emergency Services told people living in the area to stay indoors if possible and to report any suspicious activity. Schools in the town of Rosman operated on "soft lockdown," because of the search, according to a post on the Transylvania County Schools Facebook page. Students and staff will move freely throughout the building, but will not be traveling out of their buildings until further notice, the post said.Anyone with information is asked to call 828-464-5241 or 911.
