International Duo Returns To Chamber Music Society Of Detroit

Music artists Anthony Marwood & Aleksandar Madžar will return to the Chamber Music Society of Detroit on Apr. 8.

From Chamber Music Society: The high-powered duo of British violinist Anthony Marwood and Serbian pianist Aleksandar Madžar makes a return visit to the Chamber Music Society of Detroit series Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 8:00 PM. The concert, featuring a varied program of music by Janáček, Beethoven, Ravel and Prokofiev, takes place at Seligman Performing Arts Center, 22305 West 13 Mile Road (at Lahser) in Beverly Hills. Anthony Marwood and Aleksandar Madžar have been friends and collaborators for over 20 years to unvarying acclaim. Mr. Marwood describes their partnership as a “musical soul connection ... Somehow you feel that the other person brings out something in yourself that you didn’t quite know was there, they have a magic effect on you.” The two have toured across Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, and have made two recordings on the award-winning Wigmore Live label.

Anthony Marwood is known worldwide as an artist of exceptional expressive force, with an effortless technique and beautiful tone. In demand as soloist/director with chamber orchestras worldwide, he is Principal Artistic Partner of the celebrated Canadian chamber orchestra, Les Violons du Roy since 2015. In the 2016-17 season, he is Guest Artistic Leader of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. In recent years, concerto engagements have included the Boston, St. Louis and New World Symphonies in the U.S., and the Iceland, Vienna Radio, Sydney and New Zealand Symphony Orchestras abroad; he also toured recently with the Scottish and Australian Chamber Orchestras. Anthony Marwood is also a renowned champion of contemporary music, regularly premiering and recording new works for violin. Born in London, Mr. Marwood studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music. He was named Instrumentalist of the Year by the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2006 and was the violinist of the Florestan Trio for sixteen years.

Aleksandar Madžar, born in Belgrade, won prizes at the Geneva, Busoni and Umberto Micheli International Competitions and gave his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Ivan Fischer in 1990. Madžar’s prize in the 1996 Leeds Piano Competition — the London Times called him “the most imaginative musician among the finalists” — propelled him onto the United Kingdom scene,

where he became a sought-after soloist with the Royal and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras, BBC Scottish Symphony, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales, as well as throughout Europe and Asia. He tours regularly as recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, the Americas, South Africa and the Far East.
