ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg Police are investigating a crash that killed a 58-year-old Riverview woman.

Thursday at 5:33 a.m., Joseph Cavanaugh, 43, was driving a Nissan Maxima south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in St. Petersburg when he turned left onto 110th Avenue North in the path of a northbound Infiniti G 35, driven by Melissa Malone, 31. The Infiniti hit the passenger side of the Nissan. The Nissan was propelled into a drainage ditch where it flipped over and was partially submerged in water.

The passenger, Cynthia Cavanaugh, died at the scene.
