You can adopt a cat for free Saturday from the Humane Society of St. Joseph County.

Their “New Year, New Mewww” event takes place Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

They are hoping 100 of their cats will find new homes.

All cats are spayed, neutered, and microchipped.

To adopt, all you have to do is fill out an adoption application.

Bring your own cat carrier or get one there for $5.

Also, make sure you have cat food and a litter box ready at home.

The executive director says you can find cats of all kinds of different personalities.

“Some of them are really chill and loving, and some of them more active, some of them are a little shy, some of them are very outgoing,” said executive director Genny Carlson. “So we have the whole gauntlet here. We feel like all these cats will make good house cats, and they will need to remain indoors. But we have plenty to choose from.”

Pet licenses are $5 or $10 for Mishawaka and St. Joseph County residents depending on what jurisdiction you live under.

There is no fee for residents outside of St. Joseph County.
