Boston's Best All-Day Breakfast Restaurants

Breakfast is one of the best ways to start the day and, as we all know, the most important meal of the day. If you choose to sleep in late (or simply oversleep for that matter), you shouldn't miss out on some of the day's best foods. Here is a look at some of the best places in Boston to go for an all-day breakfast celebration.

Pancakes at The Friendly Toast in Kendall square are served individually in flavors like pumpkin, coconut or chocolate chip. Savory dishes here include homemade biscuits served in a white sausage gravy, crispy chicken and waffles topped with a chorizo corn gravy and a Greek scramble made with feta, Kalamata olives and fresh spinach. The lobster eggs benedict is the ultimate indulgence, served on a grilled brioche bun filled with lobster meat and topped with a two poached eggs and a decadent hollandaise sauce. There is also a second location in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Open seven days a week, this round the clock diner is popular with a younger late night crowd after hours. During the early morning hours and daytime, hungry diners come for the heaping diner special that features eggs, pancakes or French toast, home fries, toast and a choice of bacon, sausage, ham or corned beef. Pair it up with a mimosa for the perfect morning start. This popular pre-marathon stop to fuel up was built in 1947 and continues to attract some of the biggest names in the city.

Large portions, cheap prices and a favorite of locals, Mike & Patty's in Bay Village is one of the most popular places in Boston for breakfast sandwiches. Because of its proximity to Tufts Medical Center, the tiny restaurant is overflowing with medical professionals during the early morning hours. Hungry diners come here for their famous "fancy" sandwich overloaded with two fried eggs, melted cheddar cheese, crisp bacon, fresh avocado and red onions with house mayo served on toasted multigrain bread. There is also a Mexican-inspired breakfast torta with pickled jalapenos and black beans and a "Banana OG," a sweet treat of bourbon and rum caramelized bananas with creamy Nutella served on a grilled buttery brioche.

Victoria's is a long-running diner with more than 60 years in business serving up early riser starters to the masses. Unlike most traditional greasy spoons, this diner stands out with its creative menu. Omelets here range from a peppery Western, Mediterranean (think feta and olives) and Norwegian (made with salmon and capers) to the "hashlette," filled with corned beef hash and cheddar, to a new market style with broccoli, tomatoes, jalapenos, smoked bacon and Swiss cheese. Victoria's is also open 24 hours Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

One of the most unique places you will ever have breakfast can be found right on Newbury Street in a bookstore. Contrary to its surroundings, the "perpetual breakfast" affair here includes traditional finds (even a truck stop special). The creativity is really found in dishes like the apple brie omelet, smoked salmon scramble and a vegan tofu scramble. The restaurant also offers cooking demos on select nights (check the online calendar for details).
