ViaSat Inc. VSAT recently disclosed that its KOV-55 Security-System-on-a-Chip received certification from the National Security Agency (‘NSA’). With this first-of-its kind certification, the company’s KOV-55 can secure voice and data up to the Top Secret level for Multifunctional Information Distribution System Low-Volume Terminals (‘MIDS LVT’) that operates over a Link 16 network.

This off-the-shelf-based Security-System-on-a-Chip is the first to pave the way for Link 16 crypto modernization in order to aid secure interoperability with legacy along with future combat networking waveforms. As a matter of fact, MIDS LVTs proficiently offers high capacity, jam resistant and safe digital data and voice communications for numerous U.S. national entities like U.S. Navy, Marines Corps, Army and foreign tactical aircraft.

Notably, the NSA certification for KOV-55 was strategically completed on time under ViaSat’s deal with the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command’s MIDS Program Office. The contract entails the designing and development of around 10,000 units.

Talking about KOV-55, it was created to support crypto modernization for both ViaSat and other MIDS LVT offerings of U.S. vendors. Also, KOV-55, which is developed based on ViaSat’s PSIAM cryptographic architecture, meets the requirement of NSA's Policy 3-9, Cryptographic Modernization Initiative.
