Sparks police search for the driver of a black SUV involved in a hit-and-run crash

Investigators with the Sparks Police Department are searching for the driver of a black SUV, who reportedly rammed into a 16-year-old teenager in a hit-and-run crash on Friday, March 22, 2019, near Wedekind Road and Farrel Ross Drive in Sparks.

A driver struck and injured 16-year-old teenager in a hit-and-run crash, and investigators are now looking for that driver, according to the Sparks Police Department.

Officers responded at about 4 p.m. on Friday to a report of a teenager who was hit by a vehicle near Wedekind Road and Farrel Ross Drive in Sparks.

The teen was walking westbound along the dirt shoulder of the roadway when the crash occurred, police said in a news release on Saturday.

Authorities said the teen was flung into the dirt and suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of a black SUV continued traveling west on Wedekind Road.

Witnesses in a red SUV stopped to help the teen and to make sure there were no serious injuries. They then tried to follow the suspect’s vehicle.

Authorities said they don’t know the identity of the driver or the witnesses, and they don’t have further details on the description of the suspect’s vehicle.

Investigators are asking for help in identifying the driver and the vehicle involved in the crash. They are also looking for the good Samaritans who stopped to help the injured teen.
