'Calling All Divas' musical scheduled for Palace Theatre stop

“Calling All Divas,” a musical hit parade celebrating music, friendship and the power of sisterhood, will make a July 19 stop at Greensburg’s Palace Theatre on its North American premiere tour.

Featuring pop, rock, soul and country hits, the show will begin at 8 p.m. in the theater at 21 W. Otterman St

Co-creator and producer is Franke Previte, composer of “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life,” from “Dirty Dancing,” and frontman of the 1980s pop rock band, Franke and the Knockouts.

Broadway performer and Radio City Rockette Lisa Sherman, Philadelphia R&B vocalist Carol Riddick, country singer Trenna Barnes and Alessandra Guercio, a veteran of NBC’s “The Voice,” will portray the title characters.

The show also features Frank Dicopoulos, best known for his 22 years as Frank Achilles Cooper Jr. on the CBS soap opera, “Guiding Light.”

The musical features hits of the past five decades, from Etta James to Kelly Clarkson, as the divas compete to become the world’s next female singing superstar in a songwriter’s last-ditch effort to save a legendary nightclub.

It follows Frankie, the struggling songwriter, as he scours the city to find that next “Un4gettable” female voice.

“The journey of Frankie is in many ways the journey of its creator – the ‘real’ Franke Previte – from aspiring New Jersey songwriter to Academy Award and Golden Globe winner for ‘(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,’ a song that some 30 years on, remains one of the most frequently played in the world, according to Randy Alexander of Randex Communications.

“I wanted to develop a hybrid ― a concert that morphed into a play with a thread of a storyline that empowers these girls in ways that allow the audience to relate to each of them,” Previte says. “We have a Broadway rocker, a country girl, a gospel singer and a young subway singer, and it’s just incredible to watch them seamlessly meld together into a group we call The Un4gettables. … What blows me away, is the combination of their instant sisterhood and individual and collective power.”
