Lifetime Welcomes Travel Adventure Series Hosted By Scott Eddy

This article is more than 3 years old.

Scott Eddy’s job with an investment banking firm had him flying on private planes and helicopters heading to destinations around the world. Now, he is focusing on a new occupation, as the host of what is said to be the first travel focused show on Lifetime.

As the host of “Video Globetrotter,” airing its first episode Friday, May 22, at 7:30 a.m. ET/PT, Eddy’s time on screen has him taking viewers through the Caribbean.

The initial show kicks off in Trinidad, focusing on the history and culture of Carnival plus ziplining and tasting their iconic street food, “doubles.” In Antigua, Eddy interviews Julie Reifer-Jones, the CEO of Liat Airlines, who outlined the history of the airline. Scott ends his trip in Grenada, seeing vistas, resorts and beaches.

Eddy credits his previous career experience in introducing him to “the luxury side of travel” in what has become his full-time profession as a social media professional and luxury brand ambassador. “It changed my whole [life], now I know how different cultures live in real life, not from TV,” Eddy said. “It has taught me to appreciate the little things because the flashy things disappear very quickly, the little things take you through life.”

For business or personal travel, life has taken Eddy to many places. While Florida is now his home, he has previously lived in Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Spain, Portland and the United Kingdom. He credits these experiences in introducing him to, and interacting with people from, all walks of life. “[I’ve] made friends on both sides of the fence,” he said. “It has really balanced my thinking.”

This interacting with different cultures has built Eddy a reputation as a go-to digital guy for tourism agencies, hotels and travel brands to get his insight along with building a strong social media stance.

While living in Southeast Asia, he started a digital agency that would eventually start doing business with the hospitality industry, mostly hotels. Later on, he sold the agency and built his personal brand, which eventually led to him speaking at tourism and marketing conferences all over the world.

“I started getting very active on social media early,” said Eddy, who finds to be his most active platform. “I love social media. I think it's a great way to communicate, to network, to make friends.”

Naming his social media brand, “Mr. Scott Eddy,” he currently has 243,000 followers on Instagram and just over 648,000 followers on Twitter. As his accounts grew in numbers, he said that brands began approaching him to do influencer campaigns, “that’s when I realized that ‘this’ was going to be a thing.”

As for “Video Globetrotter,” airing in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Eddy is not worried about its timing.

While he has had 27 trips cancelled, Eddy said he thinks a show like this is very important right now. “I feel that it will act like a 'travel-release' for a lot of desire to move around, while you really can't go anywhere,” he said. “As far as standing out, I feel that every travel show has its own personality, and they are all important. It shows that 'travel' doesn't only have one meaning, one voice.”

Eddy is also confident that the tourism sector will come back and is working with brands that have implemented strong cleanliness policies and changes in protocol. “I really want to show firsthand all the safety measures that the industry is putting into place in real-time.”

Video Globetrotter,” hosted by Scott Eddy, airs Friday, May 22, at 7:30 a.m. ET/PT.
