Suffolk Police To Host Active Shooter Training At Jake's 58

Residents should expect to see increased police presence in the area and should not be alarmed.

ISLANDIA, NY - Suffolk County Police officers will be training for active shooter situations during an exercise at Jake’s 58 Hotel & Casino in Islandia this week.

The training will take place on Wednesday from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. while the casino is closed.

The Suffolk County Police Department holds several active shooter drills at different locations each year in an effort to prepare for an unexpected dangerous event.

Jake’s 58 Hotel & Casino agreed to have the police department use its facility for this exercise which will consist of various scenarios.

The department’s Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Bureau and Emergency Service Section will be participating.

The training is open to all police agencies in Suffolk County including state agencies, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and town and village departments.

There are currently no threats to Suffolk County but the department continues to prepare to prevent, detect, deter, and respond to acts of violence.

Residents who live near Jake’s 58 Hotel & Casino should expect to see increased police presence associated with the drill and should not be alarmed.
