Lena Rose Wehmeyer

Lena Rose (Rosie) Wehmeyer, precious wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully entering heaven on March 29, 2014 at the age of 86. She was born on May 28, 1927 in Creighton, Missouri.
Rosie grew up in rural Missouri where she graduated from high school and attended college in Warrensburg, Missouri, earning a “War-time” teaching certificate.
Rosie married Kenneth Wehmeyer in 1948 in Mound City, Missouri. They were happily married for 66 years. Rosie was a member of and enjoyed attendance and fellowship at the Westside Presbyterian Church in Lawrence. She also attended and supported the First United Methodist Church of Mission, Texas where the couple lived during the winter months.
In the early 1960’s the family moved from her homeland of Missouri to Kansas where Rosie became employed with Hallmark Cards in Lawrence. She retired, after 27 years of service, to enjoy life traveling and spending special moments with her family.
Rosie is survived by her husband; daughter Marcella (Warren) Renken, Houston, Texas; son Mark (Connie) Wehmeyer, Mission, Kansas; daughter Marlene (Kermit) Williams, Lawrence; Gigi (Dr. Michael) Boggan, Kingsport, Tennessee. Grandchildren: Kim Renken, Tyler Renken, Rayna Williams, Erin Davis, RaeAnn Handshy, Jodie Vickers, Hillary Wehmeyer, Angela Williams, Laura Southard, Joshua Boggan, and Zachary Boggan. Also surviving are her 7 great-grandchildren.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents Roy L. and Ollie Catherine McCalmon, her brother Samuel McCalmon, nephew, Billy Roy McCalmon and grandson, Matthew Boggan.
A memorial service will be held at Westside Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, Lawrence, Kansas, April 2, 2014 at 10:30 with fellowship following. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in Rosie’s honor to Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vermont Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
