Abilene business notebook: Taylor Electric Cooperative celebrates 80 years

Taylor Electric Cooperative marked its 80th year of doing business in West Texas at its annual meeting Thursday at the Abilene Convention Center. The distribution electric cooperative opened in 1939, and has offices in Merkel and Abilene.

Rep. Jodey Arrington, State Rep. Stan Lambert and Mayor Anthony Williams spoke at the gathering.

As part of the cooperative's Operation Round Up, members donated a total of $72,500 to 25 area volunteer fire departments and the Texas Forest Service. Representatives from honored stations were present at the meeting.

Food manager certification

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Taylor, Nolan and Haskell counties will conduct a two-day professional food manager certification training course May 20 and 21 at the Taylor County Extension Office, 1982 Lytle Way. The course will include the Prometric food manager certification examination, with the certification valid for five years.

Business workshop

Texas Tech Small Business Development Center Abilene will conduct a business workshop, "Where's My Profit?," from 6-8 p.m. April 30 in the Texas Tech Training Center, 749 Gateway St., Suite 301.
