Shirley A. Myrvik, age 79, resident of rural Edmore, ND, died surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at her son, Paul's farm home near Edmore, ND.

Shirley Ann Okeson was born December 1, 1937 at her family's home farm in rural Adams, ND to Carl Lewis and Selma (Peterson) Okeson. She had a very close and loving relationship with her parents and siblings. She loved to spend time with them as they would gather many times over the years. Shirley attended Hedland School in Dewey Township #120, which was a one room country school in rural Adams, ND. She graduated from Fairdale High School in 1955 and went on to Aaker's Business College in Grand Forks. Shirley was baptized at Gustavus Adolfus Swedish Church and was confirmed at Aadalen Lutheran Church in rural Fairdale, ND. She taught Sunday school at St. Hans Lutheran Church until its closing. After it closed she was a member at Concordia Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and the Ladies Bible Study. Shirley received her strength from the Lord and read the Bible cover to cover every year for the past 20 years. She loved to read and memorize verses of the Bible, gardening, baking, canning, and yard work.

Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at Wilson Bros. in Grafton, ND before her marriage. Shirley married Clifford R. Myrvik on August 2, 1958 at Gustavus Adolfus Swedish Church in rural Adams, ND. They made their home and raised their family on the farm in Edmore, ND. Early in their marriage, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper in California during the winter months. She worked later in life at MTI in Langdon. Shirley spent the majority of her life as a stay at home mom and active farm wife. She loved taking care of her family and assisting with many tasks on the family farm. Her greatest role was being a mother, whose presence was a source of security and grounding for her children. Over the years, Shirley's deep faith, gentleness, patience, and kindness brought inspiration and strength to all who knew her. Clifford passed away on October 22, 1994.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her children, Mark (Linda) Myrvik, and their children, Taylor Lauren and Mason Tyler, Bentonville, AR; Paul (Jodi) Myrvik, and their daughter, Sophie Annamae, Edmore, ND; and Cathy Ann Myrvik, Bismarck, ND; brother, LeRoy (Marlene) Okeson, San Diego, CA; brothers-in-law, LeRoy Hamre, Bismarck, ND and Amos Flaten, Park River, ND; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Okeson, Park River, ND and Jeanne Monson, Grafton, ND; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Allen (Opal) Myrvik, Edmore, ND; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, who all held a very special place in Shirley's heart.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents; siblings, Milo Okeson, Lila Mae Hamre, Glenn Okeson, and Darlene Flaten; niece, Joni Okeson; nephew, Allen Okeson.

The Memorial Service for Shirley will be held at the Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, ND, on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at the St. Hans Cemetery, rural Edmore, ND. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials are preferred to Edmore Rest Home, St. Hans Cemetery fund, or Altru Hospice, Grafton Branch.
