Is Essendon's 2018 campaign a "lost season"?

2018-08-18T11:08+10:00

Friday night’s loss to Richmond has put a full stop on Essendon’s 2018 campaign.

Despite being one of the form teams of the back-half of the year, Garry Lyon believes their season has to be judged as a failure.

“This is a team who played in a final last year and who recruited for finals,” Lyon told AFL Nation.

“I don’t know how you can not say this is a lost season for the Essendon football club.

“I don’t know how you can not mount that argument. We’ve all got different opinions on the game, but they played finals last year, they recruited to win finals this year and they’re going to miss.

“Bottom line. They’re going to miss.”

Former Richmond coach Danny Frawley agreed with Lyon’s assessment.

“It’s a wasted opportunity, there’s no doubting that whatsoever,” Frawley said.

The Bombers will face Port Adelaide next Friday night to wrap up their season.
