Software professional tricked into buying fake gold, loses A3 lakh

A software professional was cheated to the tune of Rs 3 lakh after a gang promised to sell gold ornaments and coins worth crore at a throwaway price.

BENGALURU: A software professional was cheated to the tune of Rs 3 lakh after a gang promised to sell gold ornaments and coins worth crore at a throwaway price.

On June 25, engineer Dhanik Lal Yadav, a resident of Mahadevapura, and his wife went to K R Puram railway station to book tickets for hometown. Around 11am, when they were waiting at the counter, two unknown persons, including a  female approached Dhanik Lal with a 400-year-old coin, and said they had more such coins and seven kg gold ornaments in their possession.

The duo said they got the gold ornaments and coins while working near a temple in Tamil Nadu and they would sell them at a lesser cost as they were in dire need of money.

Dhanik Lal gave them his mobile number to contact in future. The miscreants repeatedly called him. On July 21, the miscreants asked the engineer to come near Ulsoor. They asked him to bring Rs five lakh cash in lieu of 500 gram gold. Dhanik and his wife reached there around 11am with Rs three lakh cash. The miscreants showed half kg gold ornaments and gave the couple two pieces of gold ornaments for authenticity check.

Dhanik took them to a jewellery shop nearby, which confirmed the gold as real.

Dhanik subsequently negotiated and the deal was settled for Rs three lakh. But when Dhanik and his wife took the gold ornaments to the same shop for authenticity check, they realised they had fallen prey to an organised crime. All the ornaments were fake.He tried to contact the miscreants over phone but in vain.
Bharathi Nagar police later registered a case. As per the complainant, two male members of the gang were aged about 55 and 40 respectively. The woman member aged around 35. Efforts are on to nab the accused.
