THEY TELL US THIS WAS AN 11-DAY-OLD NEWBORN. THE BABY’S MOM REPORTED THE BABY WAS UNRESPONSIVE SOMETIME EARLIER THIS MORNING. SHE WAS ENROLLED IN A PRESIDENTIAL PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES HOUSING AND MEDICAL SERVICES AND DRUG REHAB FOR PREGNANT WOMEN AND NEW MOMS AND THEIR INFANTS. STILL PLENTY OF UNKNOWNS. The mother of the newborn was enrolled in a treatment center in Albuquerque

Albuquerque police are investigating the death of a newborn at a county detox treatment center where the baby's mother was staying. The Children, Youth and Families Department is also investigating the infant's death but has provided no additional details. The mother, whose name has not been released, was staying at Bernalillo County's Metropolitan Assessment and Treatment Services Center, according to spokeswoman Breanna Anderson.Anderson said the woman reported her newborn baby was unresponsive Wednesday morning. She was enrolled in the Mariposa Residential Program, which provides housing, medical services, case management and drug rehabilitation services to pregnant women and new moms and their infants, according to Anderson. APD Public Information Officer Simon Drobik said detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating and that charges will possibly be filed at a later time. The death is currently not being called a homicide.
