Locals have been left furious at the news A-listed Botanic Garage on Vinicombe Street is being transformed into a popular food spot.

Council bosses gave permission for the revamp in 2016 and the building is currently being renovated.

Nando's is also planning to provide outside seating for customers and submitted a bid for permission.

Residents have been left outraged at the move and dozens voiced their fears online.

Catherine Lucas fumed: "No. How awful. Gorgeous building ruined by cheap crap."

Alex Storm Hague wrote: "Wtf of all the things this building could have been its a bloody Nando’s. Bad taste indeed.

Brian Craig Clark added: "Sure a bit of imagination could have been used to restore this iconic facade... Nando's of all things. Goodness!!"

Gary Flanagan wrote: "What a waste of a fantastic building and location!"

Richard Lyth added: "What an unimaginative waste of a lovely building."

Rosie Maddra Stewart said: "Spent years petitioning and fighting for this beautiful building to be restored... this is pretty disappointing."

Nando’s opened its first restaurant in South Africa in 1987 and now has more than 350 outlets in the UK alone.
