Bass boss Bheka releases releases new album

Local bass guitar maestro Bheka Mthethwa recently released his new album titled Supernal Sounds

GUITAR maestro and musician Bheka Mthethwa is climbing the music ladder and flying the Zululand flag high with his bass guitar strings.

The KwaMthethwa Village muso recently released his debut album Supernal Sounds under his label Supernal Music.

In this album, Bheka not only showcases his strings’ full-bodied tones, but also his inventiveness as a music composer and arranger.

His music journey began at the age of 10 years when he learned to play his older brother’s keyboard in church.

At 15 he had developed a great interest in the bass guitar and started teaching himself by listening to gospel and RnB recordings.

Pursuing deeper understanding of music, he attended the annual Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival in Grahamstown – a project which develops young jazz musicians.

He then worked and performed with the University of KwaZulu-Natal student band at the South African Jazz Education Conference.

Bheka is now in high demand as a session bassist, as well as a successful artist, composer, producer, musical director and arranger.

He has worked with top acts such as Sibongile Khumalo, Joyous Celebration, Judith Sephuma , Ernie Smith, Dr Tumi, Ray Phiri and others, as well as international stars such as Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin and Joe Mettle.

He was involved in the Metro FM Awards, the SA Sport Awards in 2012 and 2013, the SABC National Television Gospel Music Talent Search and was part of the Mandela Memorial Service at Soccer City.

He recently toured the United Kingdom (London, Birmingham and Manchester) where he performed alongside Lebo Sekgobela, Ntokozo Mbambo, Benjanim Dube and others.
