Dahlen, Addell Louise (Halverson) born August 8, 1921 to Hjalmer and Lillian (Kohnke) Halverson of Elk Mound, WI, died on June 2, 2017 in Minneapolis, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Karl Berner Dahlen, son James Dahlen, and great granddaughter. She is survived by sister Marian Tilleson, nephew Franklin Tilleson, daughters Karen (Stuart) Johnson, Joanne (David) Martin, son Stephen Dahlen, grandchildren Carl (Monica Herrera) Martin, Dagney (Benjamin) Virgin, Sage Dahlen, Anna Dahlen, Axel Dahlen, and 4 great-grandchildren. Addell was baptized, confirmed, and married in Barum Lutheran Church, Elk Mound, WI. She graduated from Hillside School, Elk Mound High School, attended the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, and graduated with a degree in English from Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN. Addell taught school in Brownton, MN, Fall Creek and Blair, WI, and in Minneapolis Public Schools, first as a substitute teacher then as an English teacher at Folwell Junior High and Roosevelt High School. In addition to her family and teaching, Addell was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and Augsburg College faculty wives and alumni groups. Her interests ranged from gardening, furniture refinishing, tailoring, sheltering displaced persons, hosting many foreign students including several from Brazil, and teaching Sunday school. She was a good neighbor and a generous host to many groups, both at her home in Minneapolis and at her lake home near Birchwood, WI. The Knit-Wits, the Girl Scout Moms, and the Birthday Girls, were just a few of friendship groups that spanned her life in Minneapolis. Addell was involved in delivering for Meals on Wheels, faithfully making sure the coffee was ready at the local Cooperative Adult Ministry, stirring up the batter for the annual Roosevelt High Pancake Breakfast and filling in as pianist for hymn singing at church and Nokomis Square. Addell was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She provided a strong anchor for a large extended family as well. Whether it was through her many years as an English teacher, her work in the church, her sharp humor or just as a neighborhood character, Addell touched the lives of everyone she met. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 1 pm at Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church, 5011 South 31st Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Food and fellowship following the service at the Church. Memorials preferred to Metro Meals on Wheels, 1200 Washington Ave S, Ste 380, Mpls, MN 55415.
