The Columbus Water Works has changed the scheduled cutoff date for a large south Columbus apartment complex.

Water to the 383 units at Eagles Trace Apartments was scheduled to be cut off Feb. 28, but that has been moved to March 29, according to Water Works spokesman Vic Burchfield.

The change is not an extension, Burchfield told News 3. It is being made because of a change in ownership of the more than 60-acre complex off Torchhill Road.

The owners of Eagles Trace owed the Water Works $132,008.39, Water Works officials said in January. That bill has still not been paid.

Eagles Trace GA, LLC sold the complex on more than 60 acres in late December for $9.9 million, according to Muscogee County Superior Court Clerk records. The new owner is another limited-liability corporation, 2001 Torchhill Road LLC.

The new company, which lists a Cedarhurst, N.Y. address, was established with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office on Christmas Eve. The sale was closed on Dec. 28, according to Muscogee County Superior Court Clerk records.

The Water Works has determined that Eagles Trace GA’s parent company, PF Holdings of New Jersey, owes about $105,000 of that delinquent bill. The rest is owed by the new owner, Burchfield said.

The change is cutoff dates is due to the change of ownership and not an extension, Burchfield said. Signs warning residents who pay their water bill as part of the rent will be put up if 2001 Torchhill Road LLC misses the Feb. 28 deadline, Burchfield said.

A recent News 3 investigation has discovered that the old owners of Eagles Trace owe the city of Columbus $460,530.56 in back taxes and fines dating back to 2015.
