'Miracle child' returns to Macon to visit the specialists that saved his life

After his intestines were rearranged in a car accident, doctors weren't optimistic about Taylor's prognosis, but he beat the odds

Four years ago, Taylor Sanders was rushed to Navicent Health after a car crash while he was 5-years-old.

His mother Wendy Sanders says his intestines were moved around from the seatbelt suddenly tightening.

When they got to the hospital, Taylor was in critical condition and doctors didn’t expect a happy outcome, but he beat the odds to become Georgia’s miracle child.

On Friday, Taylor went back to the Children’s Hospital at Navicent Health to check out all the new changes with his family.

Taylor was unable to eat while he was in the hospital, so he wanted to come and share a snack with the same doctors and nurses who saved his life.

Wendy says the hospital turned a horrific time in their lives around and made the experience as enjoyable as possible. The doctors even let Taylor’s little brother help him get back on his feet and feel like a kid again.

“It was scary. He didn't really want to do his physical therapy, but child life specialists involved his little brother who was two at the time and so he decided to help and he did everything,” she said. “It was so amazing because Taylor was shutting down. He thought maybe he wasn't going back to that normal kids’ life and he did with the help of his brother.”

Taylor is currently in 4th grade at Baker County Elementary School and loves basketball.

13WMAZ would also like to wish him a happy early birthday as he’ll be turning 10 next week!
