Dog the Bounty Hunter has been cancelled after eight seasons.

The reality series focused on Duane 'Dog' Chapman, a former prison inmate who now tracks criminals.

Chapman was joined by various family members as he hunted down fugitives in Hawaii and his home state of Colorado.

A&E has declined to pick the show up for a ninth run, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Dog the Bounty Hunter was originally spun off from Chapman's appearance on A&E's Take This Job, a show following people with unusual occupations.

Premiering in 2004, the series featured a theme song sung by rock musician Ozzy Osbourne.

The final episode of Dog the Bounty Hunter aired on April 25.
