Beginning next year, the Florida Hospital brand will be known as AdventHealth.

The Central Florida-based health care chain, which has nearly 50 hospital campuses and more than 80,000 employees, including seven hospitals around Tampa Bay, announced the name change on Tuesday. The goal of the change is to become "one consumer-centric connected and identifiable national system," according to a press release.

The company that owns Florida Hospital, the faith-based Adventist Health System, will begin the transition to the new name on Jan. 2. There is no change in ownership or business structure.

"We are transforming to better meet the needs of those we care for and the communities we serve," Terry Shaw, president and CEO for Adventist Health System, said in a statement. "Becoming AdventHealth allows us to be a fully integrated and distinguishable health system across all aspects of the care continuum."

It also owns a large swath of land in Polk County, where it plans to build a freestanding emergency room and potentially a new hospital as the population fills in between Orlando and Tampa Bay.

Beyond acquiring new properties, Florida Hospital is renovating its existing ones. The most notable project is at the company's local flagship property, Florida Hospital Tampa, which is undergoing a $300 million renovation that includes a new a surgical tower with more beds and operating rooms.

Adventist Health System operates hospitals, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies and hospice centers in more than a dozen states.
