Fatal crashes near Sandy, Mitchell slow traffic on U.S. 26

Two fatal crashes on U.S. 26 have tangled traffic near Sandy and Mitchell Friday evening, according to state police.

A teenage boy was killed at about 7 p.m. near U.S. 26 and Southeast Firwood Road when an eastbound pickup truck pulling a trailer crashed into his truck as he attempted to turn into the westbound lanes, said police.

Troopers said the two people inside the other truck were not hurt. A detour has been set up in the area as police investigate the crash.

The identities of the people involved have not yet been released.

A motorcycle crash also on Friday evening affected lanes at milepost 51 near Mitchell. Police have not released details of the incident or the name of the person killed. Police have also not yet said if anyone else was injured.
