KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Alongside the twinkling decorations, there's another light making the Cruz family merrier this Christmas.

It's a Ring floodlight security camera, which Rhonda Cruz installed at her home for added security.

"I never expected to have to have used it only a week after it was installed," she said.

The camera was installed just in time to capture the moment on Friday when a thief jumped up on their porch, grabbed her 7-year-old son Emiliano's bike and took off. His accomplice was also riding a kid's bike and dragging another alongside it.

"I was in shock," Cruz said.

She watched it all go down in real time but was too stunned to sound the alarm or yell at the thief through the speaker on the camera.

The whole thing left Emiliano and his four-year-old brother Alexander feeling just one way.

"Mad," Emiliano said.

Luckily the Ring security camera wasn't the only one keeping an eye on the Cruz house; they also have an elf of the "shelf" variety.

"So that next morning he told his elf some bad boy took my bike, so will you tell Santa to get me another," Cruz explained.

In the meantime, she's considering getting a second camera for her backyard. She posted the video of the thieves on social media in an effort to identify them and to warn others of the neighborhood bandits.

Emiliano told us there's one thing the thieves could do to make his Christmas merry.

"Bring it back now....please," the seven-year-old said.
