A LAW student dodged jail after crashing her car into a pedestrian crossing while five times the drink-drive limit.

Courtney Murdoch, 19, was illegally carrying four pals in the back seat of the Seat Ibiza when she lost control at “grossly excessive speed” and struck railings.

It caused extensive damage to the motor, safety barriers and the crossing in Newmilns, Ayrshire.

Murdoch’s lawyer told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court yesterday she was “terrified” of being sent to prison.

David McPherson added: “She realises the consequences could have been fatal, not just for herself but also her passengers.

“She is a college student and doesn’t know what effect this will have on her future career plans.”

Murdoch was breathalysed by cops and gave a reading of 119mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22mg.

The teen, of Galston, Ayrshire, admitted drink driving and speeding on October 18.

She also pled guilty to having four rear seat passengers when the motor was only designed for three.
