UPDATE: ND Man killed in shootout with law enforcement identified

UPDATE: We now know the name of the man who was killed in a shootout with police in North Dakota's Stutsman County.

He's Identified as Michael Schieffer of Jamestown.

The incident happened Wednesday, northwest of Jamestown.

According to authorities, police tried to stop Schieffer because of a warrant was out for his arrest in Bismarck.

He then led officers on a high speed chase north of medina and into the Woodworth area.

During the pursuit, Schieffer fired at deputies before getting out of his car.

Once he did get out, he continued shooting. The deputies returned fire and killed him.

Two deputies and a police officer have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY: A man is dead following a pursuit and shootout with Jamestown Police and Stutsman County Sheriff's Deputies.

Just before noon, the Jamestown Police Department engaged in a high speed chase North of Jamestown on Highway 281. During this time, Stutsman County Sheriff's Officials joined in the pursuit. During the chase, the suspect shot at officials. The suspect lead officers to the Woodworth area when his vehicle became stuck.

Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser reports that officers fired back, injuring the man. He says no officers were injured in the shootout.

Sheriff Kaiser says officers applied first aid until Jamestown Ambulance arrived. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation. It's not known what prompted the pursuit at this time.

The name of the man is being withheld at this time.
