Everything We Know About Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Baby

2019 will see another royal baby. Here's what we know so far, from the due date, to possible names and titles.

In October 2018, the day before their whirlwind tour of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Tonga, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a big announcement: they were expecting their first child.

"Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public," their statement read. And just like that, royal news in 2019 just got that much more exciting.

But what does the public know so far about baby Sussex-to-be? All the news that’s emerged so far, below.

The Due Date

In the original statement, Kensington Palace said that Meghan Markle was due in the spring. During an appearance in January, the Duchess clarified that it’s late April.

Which means baby Sussex will be in good celebratory company: both great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth and cousin Prince Louis have April birthdays.

A Royal Title?

According to a Times of London report, Harry and Meghan may not give their child a royal title in hopes of normalizing his or her childhood. “That word ‘normal’ looms very large for Harry and Meghan when it comes to their child’s future,” a source said.

The decision is unusual, but not unprecedented. Princess Anne’s children—Zara and Peter Phillips—do not have royal titles either.

They Will Raise Their Child in Windsor

While their offices will remain at Kensington Palace, the Sussex family’s home base will be 45 minutes outside of London in Windsor. This fall, the Palace announced Harry and Meghan will live at Frogmore Cottage, a Grade II white stucco home on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

It’s rare for a senior royal to live outside the capital—just another example of Harry and Meghan doing things their own way.

Meghan Likely Won’t Give Birth at St. Mary’s Hospital

While sister-in-law Kate Middleton had her three children at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, The Daily Mail reports Markle is considering other options. (Which makes sense: there’s likely a hospital closer to Frogmore than one in the center of London.) It’s said that Frimley Park Hospital, in Surrey, could be a possible option. Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, gave birth there.

Royal Baby Names

Meghan Markle stayed mum when a royal fan asked about potential baby names in Australia. "We've been given a long list of names from everyone, we're going to sit down and have a look at them," she said.

With the gender unknown, it’s tough to predict possible names—but, British royals do tend to stick to traditional family monikers. Popular guesses with British betting agency Betfair? Diana if it’s a girl, Arthur if it’s a boy.
