After a summer weekend of celebrating German heritage with lederhosen and beer, an annual event is giving back to those who lent a hand.

On Tuesday, checks were presented to local volunteers during the annual ‘Oktoberfest Gives Back.’ This year, $20,000 in contribution checks were presented to nearly 50 community groups for the time they donated during the 17th annual Oktoberfest. Donations exceed $345,000 in total since Oktoberfest in Chippewa Falls began.

“That's what Oktoberfest is all founded on,” says Maranda Mahr, Programs Director for the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce. “It’s being able to support the community that we're a part of, so we're so thankful that we have all of these really great organizations and that we have this really supportive community, so this is kind of a nice thank you to them.”

The 18th annual Oktoberfest will be held September 20-22, 2019 at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds.
