Stewart gets first All-Star Sprint win of the season

Tony Stewart picked up his first Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car feature on Sunday at BAPS Motor Speedway in Newberry, Pennsylvania.

Stewart, who started fifth, took the lead for good after a Lap 16 restart. It was his third career win in the series, which he owns.

“Anytime you can come to Central Pennsylvania and beat the Pennsylvania Posse is pretty special. These are some of the best drivers in the country. We are all very excited to be up here right now,” said Stewart, driver of the Textron Off Road/RUSH Truck Centers/Sage Fruit/Ford Performance/No. 14 sprint car. “I try to learn from everyone I race with, especially my teammate, Donny Schatz. Donny is a true friend of mine and a mentor. We try to learn a lot from each other. He is a great person to have around.”

Cale Conley finished second to Stewart, with Lance Dewease, Paul McMahan and Aaron Reutzel trailing the three-time NASCAR Cup champion across the finish line.

Stapleton wins in Ohio

Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh captured one of the biggest wins of his career on Aug. 24 at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio. Stapleton earned $3,000 for his victory in the SSI Motorsports/Club 29 Race Car.

Trailing Stapleton across the finish line were Kody Evans of Camden, Ohio; Robby Hensley of Walton, Kentucky; Bill Sheets of Milan and John Whitney of Clarksville, Ohio.

Wilson takes Clark Memorial

Jeff Wilson of Butlerville picked up a long-awaited victory in the Mark Clark Memorial for super stocks on Aug. 25 at Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon. Wilson led the entire feature event, but received heavy pressure throughout from Branden Carr of Underwood, who finished in second. Wilson and the late Mark Clark were long-time competitors racing against each other in the super stock division in the 1980’s.

In the crate late model feature, a familiar face returned to victory lane as Marty O’Neal of Spencer scored his 12th overall feature win of the 2018 season.

Donnie Modesty of Seymour scored the win in the hornet division feature. Jeremy Huebner of Loogootee won the pure stock main event, and Anton Hernandez took the top honors in the 305 RaceSaver sprints.

Twin Cities will be off tonight. Its next scheduled event is Sunday with the Ted Collins Memorial Race. On the docket will be crate late models, pure stocks, hornets, super stocks and modifieds. For further information, visit twincitiestrack.com.

Smackdown VII at Kokomo

The Smackdown VII was scheduled to take place over four nights at Kokomo Speedway. However the finale set for Aug. 25 was rained out.

The results from Aug. 22 for the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series saw Chris Windom pick up the checkers, taking the win over Tyler Courtney, Justin Grant, Dave Darland and Brady Bacon. A stout field of 54 entrants were on hand for the opener.

On Aug. 23, Tyler Courtney came back to win the main event, holding off C.J. Leary, Bacon, Grant and Chris Windom for the win. The Aug. 24 feature would see Tyler Thomas take home the win over Courtney, Justin Grant, Bacon and Darland.

Martz wins UMRA at Kokomo

The UMRA King of the TQ Midgets ventured to Kokomo Speedway on Aug. 24 as a part of the Smackdown VII. Tate Martz would come home the winner of the feature race. Matt Lux finished in second, with Joey Paxson taking third. Completing the top five were John Heydenreich and Austin Nigh.

Columbus go-kart racing tonight

The Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing, located at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds, will host tonight after being idle for two weeks.

Brownstown racing tonight

Eldora hosts late models Sunday

Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will host the Baltes Classic on Sunday Night with a $5,000-to-win late model event on the card. Eldora then will host the most popular late model event in the country when the 48th Annual World 100 will kick off on Thursday and Friday with a pair of 25-lap $10,000-to-win features. This week in racing history

From 60 years ago in 1958 at Columbus Speedway, it was Joe King taking the feature win over Bobby Baker and Bearcat Chaplin.

This weekend in 1968 at 25th Street Speedway in Columbus, the feature winner was Jack Owens over Russ Petro and Gene Dalton.

Also from 50 years ago in 1968 at Twin Cities, it was Pee Wee Day with the feature win over Merrill Wilson.

From 40 years ago in 1978 at Paragon Speedway, it was Steve Kinser picking up the feature win over Chuck Amati, Dave Titzer, Bobby Allen and Lee Osborne.

Also from 1978 at Bloomington Speedway, Kerry Norris won the season finale for the sprints over Bob Kinser, Richard Jackson, Bobby Black and Bob Christian. The stock car feature was cancelled due to fog.

This weekend in 1978, the winner on the Saturday night at Twin Cities was Chuck Gilpin over Dee Kramer, Russ Smiley, R.A. Cook and Troy Burton. On Labor Day night, the winner was Dee Kramer over Phil Fultz, Clyde James, Chuck Gilpin and Bruce Steinert.

From 30 years ago in 1988 at Twin Cities, Steve Barnett won the late model feature over Mike Gibbs, Ray Godsey, Jim Curry and Lee Fleetwood. Mark Clark took the street stock main over Mark Barber, Fultz, Terry Arthur and Taulby Donnell. Roger Bense won the bomber feature.

At Brownstown in 1988, the winner on the Saturday night was Ira Bastin over Kenny Hardin, Dennis Boknecht, Gary Herbert and Bob Fleetwood. Doc Jewell won the hobby stock main event over Jack Taylor, Hood Cole, Ray Weston and Steve Rollins. On Labor Day, it was Jim Curry taking the late model feature victory over Dennis Boknecht, Bob Fleetwood, Paul Crockett and Don Hobbs. Doc Jewell was victorious in the hobby stock feature over Theron Straley, Tony Moore, Hood Cole and Darrell Smallwood.

In 1998 at Brownstown, Jim Curry won the Jackson 100 over Rick Aukland, Don O’Neal, Bob Pierce and Jimmy Mars. Scott Patman took the modified feature race over Johnny Wheeler, Brad Erwin, Darren Davis and Nelson Gingery.
