Western Bulldogs ball-magnet Scott West is part of a list of players who can count themselves unlucky to have not won a Brownlow Medal.
West, a five-time All-Australian and seven-time best and fairest winner, finished second in the Brownlow twice in 2000 and 2006 behind Shane Woewodin and Adam Goodes respetively.
Bob Murphy, a former teammate of West’s at the Bulldogs, says the midfielder should have been awarded the game’s highest individual honour.
“Scotty West won seven best and fairests … seven!” Murphy told SEN’s Bob and Andy.
“He should have won a Brownlow Medal … I can’t think of him playing two quiet games, it just didn’t happen. Some of us could do it in a fortnight.
“The amount of times I’d walk off the ground and the next day be like, ‘Was Westy a bit quiet today?’ And then someone would go, ‘He had 34 touches’, not a bad quiet day.
“Freak, he is a freak.”
West played 324 games for the Dogs and amassed 8222 disposals at an average of over 25 per game. His son Rhylee was drafted to the club as a father-son in 2018.
He ranks 17th all-time for most ever Brownlow votes accumulated with 175.
