Sheffield United could be without the services of Conor Washington this weekend, as they look to keep themselves in the automatic promotion places in the Championship.

The Blades are currently second, but could go third if Leeds win their game in hand, so they'll be hoping to maximise the opportunity with a clash against fourth-placed West Brom this weekend.

With the Baggies hot on their heels they need all hands on deck, but it seems Washington is likely to miss out.

As reported in the Sheffield Star, he's picked up an hamstring injury in a development game and is doubtful for the clash with Darren Moore's side.

The 26-year-old joined the Blades after being released form his QPR contract earlier in the season, but has seen his first team chances restricted due to the form of David McGoldrick and Billy Sharp.

He's dropped further down the pecking order since the the January window, with Scott Hogan and Gary Madine joining the club. However, Chris Wilder did say he wanted 'as many options as possible' after the 4-0 win against Reading this weekend.

The Verdict

This isn't a big blow to the Blades.

Washington has started three games and come of the bench in 11, but as yet hasn't notched a goal for his new club.

He's going to be left behind with the new look strike force, as well as the two other forwards available for selection. It's more of a blow to him than anything, he'll be feeling left out at a second club this season.
