Assistant coaches Donnell Kirkwood and Isaac Fruechte, both who joined the Northern State University football coaching staff in 2019, have announced their resignations.

Kirkwood will make the jump to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level as he took a position at Western Illinois. Fruechte was hired as the offensive coordinator for Winona State.

"I am happy for Isaac and Kenzie to get back to their home area and be able to raise their kids with their families nearby. This is a tough loss for Northern State football, but it is also an opportunity to bring in someone new to help elevate our program to a championship level," Northern State football coach Mike Schmidt said in a news release.

Northern will immediately search to fill both positions.
